Wife of Disgraced University Professor Denies Allegations Against Her Husband
The wife of disgraced Professor Richard Akindele of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife whose infamous recording of alleged conversation between him and a female student of his department, in which he demanded five rounds of sex in exchange for good grades has risen to defend her husband.
She says that the devil is out to tarnish her husband’s reputation.
On Tuesday, PremiumTimes had a chat with some of his church members who expressed shock at the development.
One of the members said they went to the professor’s house immediately the news broke on social media and met his wife who blamed the devil for her pastor “husband’s trouble.”
”When we heard the news, some of us were surprised. We were at his house very early this (Tuesday) morning but only met his wife who said the devil is at work to soil the name of her husband.” he said.

Another member said:
“There is no need for any computer to test the voice. The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.”
A cleric in the church who simply identified himself as Reverend Adeola said:
“Although, the voice I heard is that of Reverend Akindele, I doubt he can do that. I’m not in best position to speak. But what I can say for free is that I know him to be a man of God, generous and easy going.”
Meanwhile, in recent developments, a former OAU student currently based in Ireland has alleged that the accused professor also asked her for sex when she was his student 20 years ago.
AIT newscaster, Lara Owoeye-Wise, who is a friend of the victim shared the direct message she got from the victim.
”Good Morning. I didn’t want to react to the piece you posted on the OAU case because of notifications after I do so. I left Ife twenty years ago and I remember one of my part two accounting friends telling us to pray for her because one of her lecturers insisted on sleeping with her before she can pass his course.
She did not give in and we prayed over it. The man changed his mind and said he was only testing her. I sent this latest clip to her to tell her how things have not changed over twenty years later in the same department.
She currently lives in Ireland. She responded to my message that this professor in the news was the same lecturer who was pestered her then. I have had a few chats with people who finished from that department and they said everyone knows about him.”
The professor has reportedly deleted his Facebook account to reduce the spread of his photos online and to protect his identity and that of his family.
Repeated efforts to get the lecturer’s reaction have not been successful since Monday. He is yet to publicly speak on the scandal.
