Dear MIMsters: For Desiring A Male Child At All Costs, My Depraved Father Did This (Part 1)

Men like my father are too selfish to consider who would be inheriting the troubles they create with their p*nis, when they are gone. Why was my father so depraved?

My parents were learned, as a matter of fact, they were both in the medical profession which made it worrisome for me.

They were both medical doctors. They met in medical school in the late 50s.

While my mother’s parents were very rich, my father’s parents could barely feed, I learnt.

As we were told, my mother was so intoxicated by love that she took my father home to her parents and insisted he should be sponsored along with her to the United Kingdom; they were going to further their studies. Her parents agreed after meeting my father who had promised them he would take very good care of their daughter.

Off they went to the UK where while studying. My maternal grandparents were the sponsors, and they made 3 babies in quick succession.

After their studies, they returned to Nigeria, and my grandparents set up a hospital for my mother.

My mother was so submissive that only what my father said mattered to her. She was her parents only child so when they died, they left a lot of properties and wealth for her.

Immediately, my father manipulated my mother to relinquish ownership of the houses to him, and she did.

As at the time my maternal grandparents died, my mother has had five children- all girls.

Despite my father’s knowledge of medical science, he made my mother feel like it was her fault she had only female children.

I learnt that eventually, mother had a baby boy as the 6th child but he only stayed for 5 days. That made mother decide to try again, and this time, she had me- another girl. I was told my father walked out on her at the hospital and that it was the matron at my mother’s hospital (where my father was the chief medical director) that cared for her and took her home after she was discharged.

One would think my mother would have learnt, but she wanted to please her husband, so yet again, she got pregnant and this time, she had a set of twin girls.

My father’s relatives ‘pounced’ on her and insisted it was enough.

Unknown to my mother, my father already had 2 children- a boy and a girl with a woman who used to work for them at the hospital.

At this point, mother- in the house she inherited from her father but which had become my father’s since she signed it over to him had to receive Nurse Nkoyo as co-wife.

Nurse Nkoyo came with a lorry load of troubles so much that mother had to move to the other wing of the twin duplex we lived in so that Nurse Nkoyo could have daddy to herself. They believed that she could make more male children for my father. She did get pregnant again, but she had another female child.

By now, my father had given birth to 11 children in total.

Shortly after Nurse Nkoyo had her 3rd child, father took ill.

It was a terminal disease; we all knew where it would end.

While on the sick bed, he decided to make peace with ‘his beloved’ wife and also, to leave instructions for her which he pleaded with her to obey.

He told her that Nurse Nkoyo was not the only one with whom he fathered children…
