Police Sergeant, Folake Ogunbodede Stabs Fellow Police Officer Husband, Taiwo, Following A Disagreement

Folake Ogunbodede, a female sergeant attached to Ipaja Police Station, is currently on the run after allegedly stabbing her husband, Taiwo multiple times at their home in Ipaja, Lagos; following a disagreement.

Domestic violence is not acceptable and there can never be a justifiable justification for it. If the kitchen is too hot, the best and only option that must be taken by the aggrieved is to walk out. When walking out is not made the only option, either of the party involved could end up brutalized if not utterly left dead, as it’s the case with Folake and her husband.

It was reported that the couple had a misunderstanding and the husband left the house to allow things cool off. Folake was said to have warned him not to return home, but he did because he had nowhere else to sleep. He had returned home late Saturday night, thinking that his wife would have calmed down, only for her to start stabbing him upon his return.

It was also reported that for the timely intervention of neighbours, Folake would have killed her husband who was lying motionless at the time he was rescued. It was learned that Folake has since fled, while Taiwo continues battling for survival at the hospital he was rushed to.

However, in a new report by TheNation, a source close to Folake has this to say about the above report. She was was quoted as saying: “That report online was so unfair to the policewoman. It was a one-sided story.”

“The truth is that her husband is also a policeman. He’s an Inspector, and attached to LASTMA. They have been married for long and they have three children. The man always beats her whenever he’s drunk. He doesn’t just beat her but uses any object close by to hit her. There was a time he stabbed her on her breast and mouth. His drinking habit is one of the issues that usually caused problems between them. I don’t know what caused Saturday’s fight, but he was the one who broke a glass and stabbed her near her eye and by the neck. He pinned her to the ground, and in order to safe herself, she picked a splinter of the broken glass and stabbed him. That was how she fled the house to the police to report herself.”

The source disclosed further that the mom-of-3 had been asked by her family to leave the marriage, but she refused to obey, citing her children as her reason for staying on; in a violent marriage.

Now, Folake herself have come out to say that she stabbed her husband, Taiwo in self-defense.

While reacting to the news, the Lagos State Police PRO, Chike Oti, said the case was under investigation.
