Nigerians React As 70-Year Old Man, Alhaji Yakubu Weds 15-Year Old Girl In Niger
A Facebook user, Aliyu Umar took to his timeline to congratulate 70-year old Alhaji Yakubu who recently wedded a supposed 15-year old girl in Lapai LGA, Niger State.
While congratulating the latest ‘couple’, Umar also shared photos of the new wife with her husband with well-wishers who graced the occasion.
News has it that the groom who is also called ‘Mr Chanji’ or ‘Nafsi-Nafsi’ in Minna city, earned the sobriquet “Chanji” for his frequent divorces and replacement of wives.
“He is a philanthropist in Kwangila area of Minna. He has contributed immensely to the community, especially the building of the State, with family and friends in attendance.
We call him Chanji because he regularly ‘changes’ wives. In my knowledge, he married at least 12 times, but other people say it could be up to 20 times.
What we know is that he always keeps four wives in his house. Once he divorces one, or one of them dies, he immediately picks a replacement.”

Umar’s post generated a lot of outrage on social media, with many calling for the abolition of under-aged girl marriage while a few people pointed out that judging by the photos shared by Umar, the ‘bride’ looked sad.
