After Years of Battling With Her Dad, Rihanna Fenty Finally Sues Him

Barbadian singer, songwriter, and actress, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, 30, has had an ongoing battle with her estranged dad for a long time now. Now she is suing her old who she claims has been trying to exploit their last name.

The A-list singer alleged that he has traded on their last name to solicit millions in investments.

Her father, Ronald Fenty, who lives in Barbados, is accused in the lawsuit of establishing Fenty Entertainment in an effort to exploit his superstar daughter’s fame. The singer alleged that her father has ignored repeated warnings not to seek to do business on her behalf.

The suit alleges that Ronald Fenty tried to trademark the “Fenty” name, claiming that he planned to use it in connection with resort hotels, even though Rihanna’s company has already trademarked it. According to the complaint, he also tried to negotiate a Rihanna tour deal with SBS Entertainment, which was offering more than $15 million for a series of Latin American concerts and two concerts at Staples Center in Los Angeles and T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for $400,000.

In both cases, she claims to have nothing to do with the bookings. She also says Ronald claimed he ran the business offers by Rihanna’s actual label, Roc Nation, but the singer argues nobody from Roc Nation was ever made aware of anything Ronald was doing.

In 2018, Ronald tried to trademark the phrase “Fenty” for a line of boutique hotels, but it was shot down by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

The singer, who had in time past discussed her rocky relationship with her father, claiming she witnessed him abusing her mom when she was a child, claims she has sent many cease and desist letters to he and his business partner, but they would not stop. She is now forced to file a lawsuit and wants an injunction against her father.

The suit alleges that Ronald Fenty and his partner, Moses Joktan Perkins, preliminarily accepted the offer, though they have no connection to Rihanna’s business. The suit states that until recently, Fenty Entertainment’s social media pages claimed a connection to Rihanna in an effort to solicit investments.

The suit alleges:

“Mr. Fenty, Mr. Perkins and the Company’s (collectively “Defendants”) fraudulent conduct is particularly egregious because they repeatedly have been told to stop making these misrepresentations, and to cease and desist all activity and efforts to exploit Rihanna’s name and the goodwill associated with the Fenty brand.”

Rihanna is pursuing claims for false advertising and invasion of privacy. The suit seeks an injunction that would bar Ronald Fenty from using the Fenty trademark or claiming to represent his singer daughter.
