Friends Of Promising Health Advocate, Kafayat Abdulazeez, Enraged Over The Circumstances Of Her Death

Friends  of a health advocate and volunteer, Kafayat Abdulazeez have blamed the staff and administration of  Asokoro Hospital, Abuja, for denying the deceased her basic human right of access to medical care which ultimately led to her death.

It is such irony that a youngster as the deceased who lived advocating and volunteering for better health systems and human wellness and dignity would die under the circumstances that her friends allege that she did.

One of her friends, Joseph Chidiebere, who shared the story on his Facebook page in protest of what he called an abuse of the rights of his now deceased colleague and friend said Kafayat was a lady that impacted communities, touched the lives of the less privileged and had a line-up of community projects before that dream was rudely interrupted by her shocking death that Joseph has blamed on the nonchalant attitude of the hospital staff who allegedly turned deaf ears to the cries and pleas of Abdulazeez’s family to urgently attend to her when she was rushed in.

“I lost my friend, my volunteer, an anti human trafficking advocate, and a health advocate…….Kafayat Abdulazeez(Kaffy Harbdul), due to carelessness of our medical practitioners and unhealthy health system ……..We cannot call it a medical mistake, it is actually lack of value for life, unaccountability to life……….,

Access to proper treatment is human right. Denying people treatment is an abuse of the right of patient. Lack of value for the life of a patient is violation of the rights of the patient.

Kafayat would have been alive today if her health was taken serious at Asokoro Hospital Abuja. She would have survived if those on duty treated her with sense of emergency and urgency. (While she was in emergency unit, her health was not taken as emergency). Her family begged and cried but no empathy was shown. A patient in the hospital has to place a call to doctors and kept begging on her behalf. ………

Kafayat was a lady who has impacted communities, less privileges, and even has a line up of community projects for this month. So many indigent people depend on her to put smile on their faces, as she usually does.

We are aware many have lost friends, colleagues, family members etc due to the unhealthy manner in which medical personnel handle things and the weak health system. (We know medical practitioners are humans and can make mistake, but they cannot be exonerated when they take lives for granted……We also do appreciate medical professionals who have been unbiased to their commitment to saving lives………..)

We can’t keep silent because we lost one life, but because many lives maybe lost due to the same factors that led to her death

In few days to come, there will be a call for action, because we cannot continue to be silent. We have to collectively speak out and call for appropriate authorities to act swiftly to redeem our health system.

We can’t close our eyes to this fact, and we can’t pretend as if these factors are normal.
