Ita Faji: Many Pupils Feared Dead, Over 100 Trapped As School Building Collapses In Lagos Island

According to unconfirmed reports, many school children are feared dead after their school building collapsed on Wednesday, 10:20am at Ita Faji, Adeniji Adele area of Lagos state.

The three storey building which has the school on the last floor is also a residential building with several apartments in Lagos Island.

Pictures and video evidence show parents and sympathizers at the scene weeping and calling out the names of their children.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained at the time of this report, however it was gathered that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency have mobilized officials to the scene. Many people are helping out in the rescue operation.

A resident of the area, Prince Adams, who alerted newsmen to the incident said no fewer than 10 pupils had been removed from the rubble so far. Some of them have been rushed to the General Hospital.

“It is terrible. Parents are crying. I can’t withstand the gory sight,” he added.

A new report, albeit not confirmed, has shown that a woman has lost five children in the incident. This claim was made on Twitter by one Dr. Olufunmilayo who is quite popular on the platform. He made this known while calling for an investigation into the incident.
