Nigerian music star, Peter Okoye of the now defunct P’square music duo has opened up on why he chose his wife, and children over his brothers.

The father-of-two, popularly known as Mr. P, in a recent interview with Nancy Isime on Hip TV further revealed that he had always wanted to take the decision and go solo before now and wished he did it earlier.

For Peter Okoye, family comes first. He added that he chose his wife and children because they are his family and he can’t betray them for anyone. In his words, anyone that feels bad that he chose his wife and kids over his brothers and also wants to stop listening to his music because of it, can go ahead with the plan. He was quoted:

”It comes to a point in life you just feel this is it. I want to be from these to that. I need to do this and that. I have always wanted to do them since. I feel like, I wish I had done them years back. I feel bad now, feeling bad is in terms that I decided to chose my wife and kids over my brothers.

I chose them and I just want to be with them. They are my family. I can’t betray them and I don’t hide it. Anybody that feels bad that he choose his wife and kids over his brothers and also wants to stop listening to his music because of it, can go ahead with the plan.”

Recall that few months after they went separate ways, Peter said his twin brother, Paul Okoye was in the habit of insulting his wife, Lola Omotayo -Okoye and family at will in public and expect a performance with him without even an apology (read the full interview here). He stated:

“In life what we call family value is important. The fans want Psquare but how many times do you want PSquare to come back and break up?

We’ve broken up three times and the same issue is still there. So if Psquare is going to come back we need to settle that issue. Psquare might come back, they might not come back.

I pulled out the plug because I felt the disrespect coming from my family (was) getting too much. There’s something we call marginalisation. Don’t ever be a slave because you want to be family.

Psquare can only come back if the respect comes 100%. I don’t disrespect my brother’s wife neither, his family but he does that to me all the time. He’ll insult me and my family in public, on Instagram, and the next minute he’ll wait for me backstage for us to perform together.

I can’t do that. One thing is for sure, I took a vow to protect my wife and kids the day I got married and I stick to that.”
