NIMC Releases Important Notice On How To Retrieve Your National Identification Number In 3 Easy Steps

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has important information for all citizens. If you have registered for your national ID card but have forgotten your Identification number or lost your National Identification Number (NIN) slip , the commission says you can now retrieve the information from the comfort of your home.

According to a notice released on their official website, the commission’s USSD service allows you to retrieve your NIN using your phone in three easy steps.

Forgotten your NIN? Don’t remember where you kept your NIN slip? Not to worry, NIMC’s USSD service enables you to retrieve your NIN conveniently using your mobile phone.This service is now available on all mobile networks in Nigeria.

To use this service, simply go through the following steps:

  • dial *346#

  • from the options displayed, select “NIN Retrieval”, by typing in ‘1’, if you are using the same phone number you enrolled with for your NIN

  • follow the steps displayed on your screen and provide the required inputs

  • note that using this service attracts a N20 (tweny naira) fee only (deducted from your phone credit balance).

Be reminded that the commission in July revealed that it would commence the enforcement of NIN on the new enhanced e-passport, making it mandatory for all citizens who wish to get a passport to enrol with NIMC and obtain their NIN.
