Nigerian Dad, Abubakar Suleiman Raises Valid Concerns From What He Observed While Reading To His Daughter

A doting Nigerian father, Abubakar Suleiman has shared his concerns about what he observed from reading to his daughter. The forward-thinking dad was surprised to see that the various storybooks written for little girls were wrongly themed in his opinion.

Abubakar took to his Twitter handle @suleimana saying that he was concerned after he noticed that the stories revolved around ‘wicked stepmothers’ and ‘evil witches’, yet never warned the girl child of the real dangers she would be exposed to as a girl child.

According to Abubakar, men are the greatest threat to the girl child and story books should have been written to warn little girls of the many unpleasant men that they will encounter. The dad rightfully opined that so much of the harm that will befall a girl child comes from men and that girls need to be raised alert and aware of the imminent danger that men pose to their wellbeing.

He wrote:

“Reading to my little girl and wondering why all the tales are about wicked step mothers and evil witches..  where are the stories to warn her about all the unpleasant men she will encounter?”

He added:

“We need to write these stories.  So much of the harm that befall our girls come from men, not some step mother and wicked witches.  Let’s tell them stories that will keep them alert to perverts, to rapists, to the real evil that thrives in our communities.”

In reply to a Twitter user, the father further wrote:

“I will teach her about gentlemen, she will recognize them because that’s all she will ever know at home.”

Another father on the app replied, writing:
