Inspirational: Why Rob Kenney Is Committed To Teaching Children Of Absent Dads Basic Survival Knowledge Via Youtube

Rob Kenney who grew up without a father has gone viral after creating a YouTube channel to share ‘dad advice’ with children in a similar position.

Rob Kenney’s father left when he was just 12 years old. This meant the youngster had no one to ask about tying a tie or shaving. No dad to show him how to put up shelves or how to change a car tyre.

He grew up and had a family of his own and taught his children how to do these things – but he still felt bad for all the kids out there who also didn’t have dads to turn to.

So he came up with a way to offer ‘dad advice’ to anyone out there who might need some. Rob created a YouTube channel, called Dad, How Do I.

On it he shares video tutorials on everything from ironing a dress shirt to unclogging a drain. His videos are incredibly sweet and as such his account has gone viral, with more than one million people subscribing to his channel since it was started just one month ago.

A man named Chris Hart shared Rob’s story on Facebook and his post went wild, garnering over 611,000 shares and 318,000 likes.

Chris wrote:

This YouTuber’s dad walked out on his family when he was 12 years old.

Now that he’s a father of his own two adult children, he’s created a YouTube channel called Dad, how do I? where he posts videos of common tasks you might ask your dad for help with, so that children without fathers can use his videos as a resource.

I don’t know this man, but he got an instant subscribe from me. What an amazing, selfless thing to do for someone else. It’s stories like these that give me hope for humanity.

Rob has been overwhelmed by the response his videos have received. The dad recently uploaded a thank you video to his channel, in which he reacts to going viral.

He said:

I just thought I’d make a video just to say thank you.

I’ve been a little bit of an emotional wreck today, a little bit overwhelmed by all the amazing stories that you’ve shared with me.

I was trying to write everybody back a couple days ago, but I can’t possibly do that.

I just have such a heartfelt thank you.

The pain is pretty real in our world but hopefully this will help alleviate some of this by reaching out to you.

He continued:

When I first started doing this with my daughter, I thought there might be a need because her and I and my son, we talk basically everyday and it’s more than just how to fix things, it’s how to manage your life and adulting questions.

We thought maybe it would be beneficial to a few people and I thought if I can help a few then I’d be happy and it’s amazing. I honestly can’t get my head around it.

Please know I don’t think I’ve cornered the market on how to fix things, you know, being a dad, stuff comes up and I just have to find a way to do it, there are certain ways people might do it differently and that’s fine, but if you don’t have a way maybe you can use me as a resource to figure things out.

I’m hoping that my channel is just a way to empower people, to see if you can figure it out yourself because some of these tasks aren’t as hard as maybe we’re lead to believe.
