Relationship Coach, Olumide Omosebi Counsels Singles On Steps To Take Before Saying ‘I Do’

Relationship coach and the Chief Executive Officer of Gnosis Help Initiative, Olumide Omosebi, has shared some important advice with single men and women.

According to the relationship expert, single men and women  preparing for marriage should not spiritualise relationship but ensure certain basic checks before saying ‘I do’.

The counsellor, according to PUNCH also urged intending couples to ensure they know the person they intend marrying and discuss extensively during courtship. Mr Omosebi, who is also a lawyer, warned that it was dangerous for intending couples to believe that God would do for them what they could do for themselves to have a fulfilling marriage.

Speaking at an outreach in Lagos on the theme, ‘Just Before You Say I Do,’ the relationship expert shared the importance of partners knowing themselves and boundaries before tying the nuptial knot. He said,

“As a lawyer, I have seen different issues that led to marriage dissolution. I have seen how domestic abuse shattered marriages to the point of death.

“I cite this popular adage for persons going into marriage: ‘Know thyself and to thyself be true.’ I see people spiritualising relationship. Partners need to talk about everything before marriage and create boundaries during dating. Marriage is to be enjoyed and not endured.”

The coaching session involved survivors of abusive marriage, who shared how they suffered in the hands of their partners before their marriages were dissolved.

The survivors noted that there were always warning signs before getting married but sometimes the thought that a partner would change after marriage usually tricked some singles into going ahead to marry abusive partners.
