Experts Advice: How To Maintain Healthy Vagina And Revamp Your Sex Life

Having a healthy vagina is important. While the vagina is imbued with the capacity for self-cleaning by balancing healthy bacteria and regulating the pH, women must still be concerned about maintaining a healthy vagina.

By so doing, they will have fewer cases of infections and, ultimately, better sex, according to DKT Nigeria Partner Clinics in an email sent to PUNCH.

The email states,

“Vaginal health is an important part of a woman’s overall health as vaginal problems can affect fertility, desire for sex and the ability to reach orgasm.

“Ongoing vaginal issues can also cause stress or relationship problems and impact a woman’s self-confidence.”

Experts suggest ways women could enhance vaginal health and revamp sex life as follows

Maintaining a normal pH balance

Medical Health News, an online platform, urges women to avoid harsh soaps and douching, as soaps typically have a high pH, and using them to clean the vaginal area may increase vaginal pH.

Also, during the monthly period, change your tampons regularly.

Actions such as douching, using scented products and deodorants around the vagina, wearing tight non-breathable clothing, or using irritating products can all contribute to pH imbalance. So, avoid them, the platform counsels.

Healthy foods

Incorporating healthy foods into the daily diet makes the vagina healthy. Such foods include:

i. Cranberry juice. Studies show that cranberries can be especially beneficial in preventing urinary tract infections in women with recurrent or recent UTI issues. Just make sure you stay away from the sugar-loaded cranberry juice varieties, which can actually make things worse down there.

ii. Yogurt with live and active cultures (probiotics) contain the same good bacteria the vagina needs to maintain its healthy pH levels.

iii. Sweet potatoes contain vitamin A which contribute to healthy vaginal and uterine walls and help produce the hormones needed to stay vibrant and energized

iv. Garlic is known to be antimicrobial and it is said that eating it raw can help fight yeast infections.

v. Soy like edamame and tofu help keep the vagina lubricated.

vi. Hot chilies improve blood circulation and are good for stimulating sexual arousal.

vii. Guava, kiwi, oranges, and green peppers are full of vitamin C, which helps with stamina and keeps sex drive going by removing the free radicals that disrupt normal sexual health.

viii. Other foods like avocados, apples, flaxseeds, and water are super-healthy and help the vagina stay naturally lubricated down there.

Antibiotics

Do not overuse antibiotics, as unnecessary antibiotic use can significantly reduce vaginal health.

“This is because antibiotics do not discriminate — they kill off both good and bad bacteria, throw pH levels off balance and cause yeast and other infections to grow,” the international organisation says.
