20 young girls from a local school were taken hostage amid the attack, according to an eye witness who is also a teacher at the school..

Nothing is known of the girls and their current location or condition.

The Nigerian eye also reports that Students of the College of Education, Hong, Adamawa, have started vacating campus over alleged threat letters from members of Boko Haram asking them to leave.

Some of the students who spoke to newsmen on the issue on Thursday, said it had caused tension in the school resulting to mass exodus of staff and students.

The Provost of the College, Dr Johnson Pongri, who also confirmed the letter, said he was aware of five letters purportedly written by members of the group.

He said that though he doubted the authenticity of the letters, he had, however, communicated the receipt of the letters to the security agencies.

“I have also invited the local vigilante to beef up security in the school, ‘’ he said, adding that the number of students who had left the school was few.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Yola, DSP Mohammed Ibrahim, confirmed that the command was informed of the threat.

He said the matter was being investigated by the police.
