16 Female Patients Accuse Nigerian-American Doctor Of Sexual Assault

A 52-year-old Nigerian-American Doctor, Uwensuyi-Edosomwan has been accused of sexually assaulting 16 of his female patients. Initially, he was reportedly arrested in January on sexual offense charges related to two patients. Now, fourteen more people have reportedly come forward saying they were also sexually assaulted by him.

According to Charlotte Observer, Police announced the arrest and charges on Tuesday, and urged other potential victims to come forward.

Information from the 14 new accusations is “being reviewed by detectives to determine if Dr. Edosomwan committed criminal acts in these instances,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement. “Detectives are also consulting with the District Attorney’s Office on these additional allegations.”

Edosomwan, a married father of five who’s been practicing medicine for nearly 20 years, denied “any and all accusations filed by the Charlotte Mecklenburg police department,” according to a statement from his attorney.

Edosomwan works at Americare Health at 1805 Milton Road, where one of the alleged assaults occurred, police said. The practice focuses on internal health, family medicine and pediatrics, according to its website. A second alleged assault happened at a clinic in the 700 block of West Sugar Creek Road, police said.

A woman told investigators that Edosomwan sexually assaulted her during a Jan. 2 medical examination, police said. She called police shortly after leaving the clinic. A second female patient said she was assaulted on Jan. 14. She reported the incident to police before leaving the clinic.
