See What This Mum Is Doing To Raise Money For Her Daughter’s Treatment

A mother trying  to raise money for the treatment of her 4-year-old daughter diagnosed with leukaemia has been selling hugs to strangers in Chongqing, southwest China.

According to the Daily Mail, Chen Dejuan 28, has been selling hugs for 10 Yuan (£1) each in Chongqing, southwest China, reported the People’s Daily Online. She’s accompanied by her four-year-old daughter, Nana, who has been diagnosed with leukaemia, a cancer of the blood.

The family have already spent 70,000 Yuan (£7,250) in savings on her medical treatment. With her hugging campaign, Ms Chen managed to raise about 600 Yuan (£60) in donations in the first hour on July 24. She held up a sign reading ‘hugs for sale’ and showed passers-by her daughter’s medical records to prove that she was genuinely ill.

Generous members of the public have also donated money online after reading about her story on social media. Nana was diagnosed with leukaemia after she collapsed in their hometown in Shandong province, eastern China, in May. After being treated in four different hospitals in Shandong, her parents decided to take her to the Chongqing Medical University for further treatment.  After using up their savings, the couple have had to borrow money to pay the expensive medical fees.

This is not the first time desperate parents have taken to the streets in China to raise money for their sick children. In April, a father dressed up as a horse and offered passers-by rides for five Yuan (50p) each in order to raise money for his son, who was also suffering from leukaemia.
