Dear MIM Readers: My Tenant Owes Me Almost 2 Years Rent While His Wife Goes On A Shopping Spree
I am a landlord in Lagos. I live in the same compound with my tenants.
One of my tenants who is married with two kids has continously failed in paying up his rents. He owes me over one and a half years in rent. He has been out of job and has begged me to be patient with him. I need the money very much as my business has been suffering. I am also tight on cash. My wife has been supporting us from her business of buying and selling female clothings. I have been very patient with him but that is beginning to run out.
My wife recently got back from one of her trips to Dubai where she goes to get her market. One of the people who patronised her happened to be my tenant’s wife who lives in the same as as her husband, my tenant. She bought items worth 55k while their due rent is about 400k. Does this make any sense? I don’t what else they spend money on. Shouldn’t paying up their rents be a priority or are they taking me for a fool?
Am I being fooled by my tenants and being taken for a ride? Or is my tenant’s wife fooling her husband? Please tell me, who is fooling who?
I think she’s spending her own money and not her hubby’s if she’s working and if not, maybe she’s getting the money from elsewhere and the hubby doesn’t know because I can’t be owing rent and be buying clothes instead of finding a way to pay up. But whatever the case, let the hubby know about the clothes she bought and see his reaction from there u know what step to take. Maybe she would prefer them been kicked out on the streets. Smh for some people.
It’s possible your tenant’s wife is not helping her husband out. There are women like that when it comes to finance, they’ll never assist their husbands in running the home financially. Just talk to your tenant, if he can’t raise the money then let them move to a cheaper apartment they can pay for. It’s well!
Hmmnn,for her to transport herself to dubai plus buy stuff of dat amount means ur matter na secondary issue to them.but some tenants get mind sha.
You don’t have to know who is fooling who. All you need to do is get a court injunction and send them out of the house so that you can see how the wife will be wearing all the ‘designers’ she got. I don’t know why common sense is not common again.
My mum had 2 tenants who were acting up like that. She went to some court in Lagos. I think you should do same. Though I don’t know the name but there are courts created for landlord and tenants issues. They will fix a date for him to pay cos you didn’t build the house with their money.
This kinda tenants re everywhere oh de pretend de don’t hv money yet eat n spend outside. If u don’t hv money why not pack to de village n stop wasting someone’s resources? My dear serve dem quit notice n find a suitable lawyer
Nawah some tenants get mind oh, do what’s best for u my dear dan dying when u hv sometin (house) dat can fetceh u money. Let him pack out if he doesn’t hv money period
Give them quick notice. They r abusing ur generosity
She can’t say she is not aware of their debt.There are women that will have money but refuse to assist the husbands for things they see as the man’s responsibility.Serve them a quit notice n follow through with it.It doesn’t matter who is fooling who.Since the wife stays there,it will affect her too.

U did not state if the wife works or d kind of wife she is because some women r worse than the devil& will never help their husband even when they know he is down.that notwithstanding u did not come to Lagos to count bridge, give them a quit notice, that way u get anor tenant but if they want to pay again (maybe the wife wl want to pay to avoid eviction) make sure you sign a bee tenancy agreement that wl stipulate d payment of rent b4 expiration if tenant is stl interested to avoid letting of the house to another individual
The wife of your tenant is not sensible enough, she prefer to enjoy herself without helping the hubby. she should have use the money to at least help the hubby to offset the bill.
It’s because you’re still putting a roof over their heads that’s why she still has a space to hang clothes. Get an injunction from the court and throw them out.
Oga pls take dem to court what rubbish is dat, even if its her money can’t she assist her husband instead of being materialistic

Hmmmmm,some tenants can b so funny,2yrs witout payment ad ure stil watching him?i don’t tink he is using a jazz on u,so y keeping him wen u knw he has a source of money close to him.
