Mum Shares Baby’s Miraculous Recovery After Long-term Struggle With Chronic Skin Disease

My son was born healthy. However, the story changed five months after his birth when I noticed something strange about his skin – it was red and very itchy. I took him to the hospital and his paediatrician said my son had atopic dermatitis, adding that there is no cure but the condition can be managed.

I couldn’t help the tears that flowed down my face immediately. I asked her the cause of the problem, and she told me that my baby is allergic to something. Shouting, I asked, ‘Doctor, what?’ She replied that it’s difficult to tell, that it could be food, the environment, detergent, and so on.

I asked what could be done because he is unable to sleep soundly, and she re-emphasized there is no cure but hydrocortisone cream 1% would reduce the red inflamed skin. I used the cream for one month as instructed by the paediatrician, unfortunately, my son’s skin went from bad to worse. He became very fair and his skin became so thin you could see some of his veins. I became more alarmed than ever.

We saw his paediatrician again, and after examining him, she referred us to a dermatologist. I thought a ray of hope was ahead but there was still no improvement.

As the days went by, his skin became very dry, scaly and very itchy. I became very apprehensive and desperate. I decided to try another hospital. That led to series of fruitless visits to several other hospitals. Still, my son got worse. Each time I went out, people would ask me what’s wrong with my baby’s skin because he would scratch and scratch!!!! I even resolved to try local herbs (agbo). I also met a pastor who asked me to sow a costly seed, assuring me that my son will be healed. I did all to no avail, until this month when I had cause to smile again!

My church’s theme for this month is ‘I will restore health unto you (Jeremiah 30:17)’. So, I held onto it, crying day and night to God to take this ugly pain away from my now 14-month-old baby and restore his health. God answered me – the itching has stopped and my son’s skin is back to normal!

To say I am overwhelmed with joy is an understatement. There is a miraculous God that answers prayers – what is impossible with men is 101% possible with Him. Please join me to celebrate His awesomeness by praising Him!
