How Nurse Schemed Doctor’s Son’s Kidnap to Sponsor Proposed Wedding to Boyfriend

Maureen Uchenna, a nurse arrested with three others for kidnapping the four-year-old son of a doctor in Abeokuta two weeks ago has told police her boyfriend, Obinna Amoke, coerced her into committing the crime and subsequently demanding N11 million ransom from his parents to fund their proposed wedding ceremony and trip abroad. Maureen’s boyfriend is still at large.

The boy, Steve Kanu, was kidnapped in his parents’ home at Laderin Estate, Abeokuta, on Monday November 2 and rescued last Friday.

According to the Vanguard, Maureen confessed that a ransom of N1 million was paid before men of Ogun State police command swooped on them at Nsukka, Enugu State, and rescued the boy alive.

She said:  “I learned that Dr. Mucipay Kanu paid N1 million ransom before the police detectives swooped on us at Nsukka in Enugu, and rescued the boy alive, and arrested two of us. I regretted my action, it was my boyfriend who wanted to travel abroad and he wanted to pay my bride price, that pressurised me into committing this crime.’’

Parading the suspected kidnappers, the commissioner said the manhunt for the brain behind the whole plot, Obinna, was on and he would definitely be arrested.

He added: “The boy was kept for eight days in Anayo Amoke’s residence at Isale Ibefun in Abeokuta before he was moved down to Nsukka, and kept at Oluchi Asadu’s house.”
