10-Year-Old Schoolgirl Bullied for Her Size Launches Clothing Line

Egypt Ufele, usually called Ify, a fifth grader from Queens, New York was bullied at school for her size and instead of letting that ruin her self-esteem, it inspired her to break into the competitive world of fashion design at only 10 years old.

She started off by designing a line of clothing for plus-sizes and soon made it to the New York Fashion Week as the only child designer to dress curvy models.

“People applaud me (now) and tell me I’m good at fashion. (Previously) I was bullied and they called me all kinds of names. One time I got stabbed by a pencil,” she said.

Ify who sews with her grandmother’s sewing machine has named her clothing line, Chubiline which she describes as “bringing Africa to America, one design at a time.”

“I turned negative attention into positive attention,” the excited 10-year-old said. She added, “Being a designer and being at fashion shows are really exciting because you get a lot of attention, and a lot of people ask you what inspires you.”
