6-Year-Old Girl Handcuffed for Allegedly Taking Candy from Teacher’s Desk

A 6-year-old schoolgirl at Fernwood Elementary in Chicago, Madisyn Moore, was reportedly dragged out of her class and handcuffed by the school resource officer for taking candy from her teacher’s desk. Her mum, Marlena Wordlaw, who arrived at the school about an hour later, found her sitting in a dark stairwell in handcuffs.

In an interview with NBC Chicago, Wordlaw said she asked the resource officer why he had her daughter in handcuffs and he allegedly said, ‘Because I’m trying to teach them to stop taking stuff that don’t belong to them. I’m doing my job, I’m trying to teach her a lesson.’

She added that when he pulled her from under the stairs 50 minutes later, she was crying.

The school principal subsequently tried tendering an apology but Wordlaw will have none of it. She said,

“I don’t accept your apology ever. I’m more angry than anything because it’s my only daughter. I feel like anything could have happened to her. Somebody could have touched her. She’s in the dark under the stairs.”

She reportedly plans to file a lawsuit.

What do you think? Was that child abuse or discipline?
