Lagos Woman Arraigned for Beating her Mother

A Lagos-based woman is facing judgement at the court of law for disgracing her own mother in public by mercilessly beating and assaulting her.

According to PMnews, the 25-year old woman, Bilikisu Abodunrin, charged with beating her mother was on Thursday arraigned before Magistrate M.K.O Fadeyi of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, where she is being tried for a breach of peace, assault and threat to life.

Momoh, the prosecutor in charge of the case told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 31 at her residence, 16, Ayantunga, Street, Mushin, Lagos State.

Momoh said that the accused, unlawfully, assaulted her mother, Adenike Adeniran, by beating her up.

“The accused threw some punches at the complainant’s body and caused her bodily harm,’’ she said because she used to separate her whenever she was fighting.

“The accused on this occasion beat-up the complainant (her mum) because she stopped her from fighting with a neighbour.

“The accused, a nursing mother, also threatened to poison the food of the complainant and kill her,’’ she said.

The inspector said the offences committed by the accused contravened Sections 56, 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 171 provides that if the accused is found liable, she would be imprisoned for three years.

The accused plead not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Magistrate Fadeyi adjourned the case to June 20th.
