Meet Heroic 6-Year-Old Boy Who Died Trying To Save Mum From Rapist

A very young boy is being hailed as a hero after he died while trying to protect his mother from her attacker.

According to SABC, the community of Jan Kempdorp in South Africa, is still in shock following the brutal killing of the 6-year-old boy named Kutlwano Garesape, who was stabbed with a broken bottle while trying to defend his mum from being raped.

Giving reports on how the unfortunate incident happened, Kutlwano, his brother and his 42-year-old mother, Segomotso Garesape, were walking to school after they missed their bus in the northern Cape when they were allegedly attacked by a 32-year-old man called Teselo Dikole, who demanded money, on Friday morning.

When they failed to produce the money, he allegedly took out a bottle and tried to rape the mother and when Kutlwano intervened by slapping and kicking the man as he attempted to strangle his mother‚ screaming: “Let go of my mommy,” he was stabbed.

She said:

“Kutlwano slapped the man across the face and told him to let go of me. He kept on screaming ‘Let go of my mummy, it is my mummy’ while slapping and kicking the man.

“Thabiso was scared but Kutlwano kept on defending me. I could feel that the man was pulling up my skirt with his other hand and realised he wanted to rape me in front of my children.

“I heard my child crying out for me and I saw him trying to defend himself with his hands. The man just kept on stabbing him.”

She was finally able to find help but the attacker then ran away, throwing her son onto the railway track. The devastated mum said she held her bleeding son in his last moments.

According to the Northern Cape Premier, Sylvia Lucas, who released a statement, expressing her condolences for the family.

“This senseless and insensitive attack comes during a month when we actively advocate for the rights of women. There can be no justifiable reason or explanation for one person to inflict so much pain and suffering on an innocent child.

“Kutlwano had his whole life ahead of him and one merciless act destroyed the life of a child, that of his parents and the community at large.”

The attacker has since been arrested and charged with murder to appear in the Jan Kempdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The case was postponed to August 22 for a formal bail application.
