“No, my wedding is not an accomplishment” Actress Gabrielle Union Reveals

American actress, Gabrielle Union, who celebrated 2nd wedding anniversary with her basketball star husband, Dwayne Wade last month has just revealed that getting married to him is not an accomplishment but being a sexual assault survivor, choosing herself and realizing that ‘I was my best asset’.

In an #xoExclusive interview, the 43-year-old star revealed,

“When people say, ‘You’re so lucky Dwyane Wade chose you,’ I’m like, ‘No, I chose myself.’ There are people that have asked and assume that my greatest accomplishment is getting married and I’m like, ‘No, my wedding is not an accomplishment.

The fact that I made it down the aisle with Dwyane Wade isn’t an accomplishment.

Graduating from UCLA is an accomplishment, being a sexual assault survivor is an accomplishment, being a part of The National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women (NAC) appointed by President Obama– that’s an accomplishment.’ Getting this man down the aisle isn’t an accomplishment. Just being chosen isn’t an accomplishment.

Once I chose myself and realized I was my best asset, not who chooses me, that freed me up to love myself and love others.”

  • Aptly said. Spot on Gabby. I don’t know since when marriage became an accomplishment. They make women be like they don’t have a life of their own. Rubbish.

  • Women should love and appreciate themselves, marriage isn’t an accomplishment, stop making men feel like you’re lucky to have them, let them feel like they’re the lucky ones.

  • Of course marriage is an accomplishment. It is a milestone in one’s life. just like having a baby, retirement, buying a house etc. only hypothetical people will tell you it isn’t.
