It is a fresh start for Jackline Mwende, the Kenyan woman whose hands were chopped off and face hacked by her 34-year-old husband, Stephen Ngila. The woman who suffered this severe form of domestic violence over her inability to conceive in their 7 years marriage has finally been fitted with prosthetic limbs.

According to Tuko, the operation which was done in Seoul, Korea on Thursday, October 6, was successful and doctors say that when she is completely healed, she will regain 80% use of her hands.

Though it later emerged that her husband might not have been her attacker, Kenyans sympathized with her and the county government gave her a second chance at  life.

Last month, she was flown to South Korea for an operation to give her prosthetic limbs. The particular type of prosthetics she needed were not available in Kenya which prompted flight and the procedure.

Mwende’s operation was sponsored by LG Electronics which paid her transport and medical expenses. She began by holding a cup by herself.

“I thank God, LG Electronics and all well-wishers for the support. My life, which had come to a dead end, has been transformed now and I have great hopes for the future,” she said.
