New Mum And Actress, Tatyana Ali, Shares Birth Story And How She’s Adjusting To Motherhood

Actress Tatyana Ali and husband, Dr. Vaughn Rasberry, welcomed their first child, Edward Aszard Rasberry, on September 16.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star gave fans a tiny first-look at her baby boy on Monday via Instagram.

“Spending my days learning how to keep up with this little pumpkin,” Ali wrote along with a photo of herself holding her little bundle of joy.

In addition to introducing baby Edward to the world, Ali’s Instagram post also promoted her latest blog post for People.com.

In it, the first time mum narrated how strenuous her labour was and also spoke on how she’s adjusting to parenthood.

“After a long labor — 24 hours — I heard my baby before I saw him.

By the time he was in my arms, I had just enough energy, with my husband and our doula’s help, to have him latch. I fell asleep knowing that he had safely arrived.

Vaughn notified our family, who had been keeping vigil for nearly a day just a few rooms away. In our family suite at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, I had the chance to get lost in his every feature and gesture for the first time. I awoke with Vaughn at my side and our beautiful baby boy in a bassinet beside us. I lay awake until the next morning because I couldn’t stop staring at him.

We’re completely swooning over this kid. When I kiss him in his sleep, soundly in REM, dreaming his baby dreams, he smiles and my heart explodes out of my body and into all of the space surrounding us.

Everything is new and he’s changing every moment of every day. He has laser focus on anyone who’s in the room. It’s amazing. It’s miraculous. It really, really is. He’s smiling. We’re learning all of his facial expressions. He hasn’t done a full-out laugh yet. That’s what we’re waiting for—he smiles a lot, but he hasn’t done a giggle [yet].

On her new mommy routine:

”Becoming a mother has opened my heart to a bottomless depth of feeling. Through our son, I see the world with new eyes. We’ve completely fallen in love.

I decided to breastfeed solely, so that is really what my schedule is [all about]. You know, it’s something that is not necessarily instinctive, like there are messes and there are different techniques and styles. Then you have to learn the style of your baby and how much they want to eat. The learning curve has been huge.
