Horror As 62-Year-Old Widow & Children Are Brutally Attacked In Ikorodu

A group said to be notorious for raping women and inflicting injuries on victims in Ikorodu, Lagos, reportedly struck again in the Ibeshe area of the community on Thursday.

Punch reports a member of the group unleashed terror on a 62-year-old widow, Mrs. Ogunleye, and her two children, Seun and Funlola, after gaining access to the family’s apartment. He was said to have hacked them with a cutlass, leaving them in a pool of blood. They are now in critical condition at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

Speaking about the ugly episode which has since increased residents’ apprehension, a resident, Seye, claimed the attack had a ritual undertone.

He added:

“The woman’s husband died long time ago and she has been taking care of their two children alone. The boy that attacked them is a student.

It was around 7am that the woman and her children cried for help. People rushed into their residence and took them to the hospital. Their faces were covered in blood.”

The attack is the most recent in a series of brutal attacks in the community, which has reportedly made several residents relocate.

Following the recent attack, residents reportedly carried out a protest. One of the protesters revealed:

“It was some community leaders who prevailed on us to stop the protest. We are tired of these attacks. We have cried out to the Lagos State Government but no help is forthcoming. Our lives are seriously in danger.

We have vigilantes in the community, but this menace is beyond what they alone can tackle. They were on duty when the incident happened. We really need government to help us tackle members of the gang and their sponsors.”

Meanwhile, Lagos State police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said:

“We received the report; good enough there is no death recorded. The Commissioner of Police has directed the new DPO there to fish out the culprit and apply the concept of community policing to end the criminality.”
