How A Pregnant Girl Was Saved From Taking Her Life In Abia Forest

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Abia State command, Umuahia rescued an 18 year old girl known as Deborah who hails from Ariaria, in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state as she sought to take her own life in an Abia forest

According to NSCDC, Deborah was found in a for­est in Ossah Mission Hill, Umuahia. Commandant Walter Akubiro tells news Metro that the girl became frustrated following the abandon­ment by her mother af­ter her father’s death.

He said that the girl said her mother abandoned her and her two siblings and remar­ried after her father died in 2013. The girl was said to have ran to a boy in Aba known as David who comes from Imo state. He had promised to marry her only to reject her after she took in for him. Thereafter, she took to wandering the streets as the hardship intensified.

NSCDC personnel at­tached to the presiding pastor of the Heavenly Assembly church locat­ed at Ossah sighted the girl in the forest while trying to take her life.

Commandant Walter Akubiro, urged the general public to always give helping hand to vulnerable persons in the society, as such gesture could go a long way in the society. He also pleaded with parents to pay special attention to their children, especially females so they do not fall victims.

He mandated the anti-child trafficking unit of the corps to carry its duty diligently to ensure all process towards handing the victim over to the Women Development Ministry in the state was done accordingly.
