Nigerian Couple Based in US Arraigned for Child Abuse and Neglect

40-year-old Olalekan Olawusi and his wife, Arinola Olawusi, 33, have been arraigned for child abuse and neglect. The arrest happened after their 3 month old baby, Tobiloba Olawusi, was resuscitated by firefighters who discovered the baby didn’t have a pulse. This followed Olalekan’s call to 911 from their Rhode Island home, saying that his son was not breathing.

Providence Journal revealed that upon Tobiloba’s admission at the Hasbro Children’s Hospital, it was discovered that he had bite marks, both fresh and old, a fractured skull, broken ribs, arms and legs. Special Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore, revealed that the mother, Arinola, claimed that her husband had bitten and pulled their son’s legs all in a bid to make him stronger.

A District Court judge granted $40,000 bail with surety to Olalekan and ordered him to surrender his Nigerian passport, also cutting off any contact the couple would have with the baby pending a hearing.

In a very strange turn of events, it was also discovered that Arinola is the author of a book: “A-Z Ways to Achieve Your Goals In Life,”.  She described the book as a simple, alphabetical and practical way to motivate and build your confidence into realizing your life goals. The author’s section of the book, also describes her as a lady who likes helping pregnant, worried women and their children when she isn’t writing.
