5 Reasons Why Women Love to Have Children

When the stress of being pregnant, the sleepless nights, the pain that comes with labor and pushing is considered, one would think that not every woman would want to have children. Funny enough, it is quite the opposite. Women are well aware of all the things that can go wrong during pregnancy, labor and childbirth, how their bodies will probably feel afterwards, but still, a very large number of women are still having children.

It could be the inborn motherly instinct of most females, or the need to fulfill some inner craving to have a “mini me”-  here are five reasons we have concluded women would want to have children.

1: Beauty

Children are not only funny, they are beautiful. Even babies who are not necessarily physically, beautiful are greatly loved and appreciated by their parents.. Simply surrounding yourself with creatures so visually pleasing makes every day a delight. When we consider the challenge of life’s pressures, a little beauty to call your own is not so bad.

2: Believing You Can

The human body, given the right conditions and support, can actually go through the birth and mothering process successfully.  Belief in your body’s ability to give birth, and the confidence that your body actually knows what to do, trusting your instincts as a mother when those uncertain moments come out to play is a powerful mindset that help women trust in the natural process of motherhood.

3: To meet society’s requirements

In today’s society and world, especially Nigeria, a woman is not a woman until she has children. Most women find themselves having children just to fit the status quo. Even single women are choosing to have children without wanting the added “task” of marriage. Even women who have been widowed are choosing to raise their children single handedly.

4: To raise and nurture another individual

A woman who has suffered abuse, or heartbreak, might want to have a daughter only to teach her the worth of being strong and independent. A woman who suffers from insecurity will train her daughter to trust in her uniqueness and difference. The list goes on and on. There is an inner longing for mothers to want to shield their children, male or female from experiences that were not too pleasant in their own lives.

5. Biological Clock

Women’s bodies are created in such a way that there is an optimum age range for conception and child birth.  Your body goes through a number of changes over the years, the mother of them all, menopause. When that hits or is at the verge of hitting, you find women trying by all means to have children.
