King of Saudi Set to Make Life Better for Women as He Passes New Gender-Friendly Law

Saudi King,  Salman Al-Saud passed a law yesterday, allowing women to apply for services without the approval of their guardians. The guardians could be the fathers, brothers, husbands, sons or any other male relatives.

The current law on ground in the state stipulates that a written approval by the woman’s guardian is needed to process their applications for services.

Media Trust reports that the move could save women troubles, especially those without guardians.

The order also demands that organizations should provide appropriate transportation services for their female employees, which could reduce the cases of traffic accidents that cause the death of women employees, mainly teachers due to the hire  of reckless drivers to transport them to their workplaces. Saudi Arabia currently has a ban that doesn’t allow women to drive and this has been a hindrance for many of them to get jobs or lead independent lifestyles.(Xinhua/NAN)
