Update: Horrific Details of Karabo Mokoena’s Gruesome Murder Revealed as DNA Test is Conducted

Horrific details surrounding the tragic death of a 22-year-old South African woman, Karabo Mokoena, who was murdered and burnt beyond recognition by her abusive ex-boyfriend, Sandile Mantsoe, 27, have been revealed.

DNA tests have confirmed that the charred remains of the deceased found in a shallow grave in Johannesburg, are truly Karabo’s.

According to reports from Sunday World, hours before the part-time business student’s murder on April 27‚ Karabo had had a heated argument with Sandile in a Sandton nightclub that deteriorated into a physical fight. The couple left the club together but she was never seen alive again.

Sandile allegedly loaded Karabo’s body into a bin that had wheels, put it in his luxury BMW, and drove to his family home where he picked up a tyre, acid and a container to buy petrol.

He then proceeded to a deserted area where he burned Karabo. These horrific details are, according to law-enforcement sources, contained in Mantsoe’s affidavit deposed with the police last week.

Her body was found in a patch of veld in Bramley‚ Johannesburg‚ two days later by a passer-by who at first thought the body was a burnt mannequin.

The accused faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. Meanwhile, friends, neighbours and relatives gathered at the Mokoena family home in Soweto yesterday, trying to make sense of Karabo’s murder.

“He claims that he doesn’t know who killed her, but that he panicked and believed people would think he killed her.

He said he stuffed her body into a bin, rolled it out and into his gold BMW and drove to his family home in Lyndhurst. He picked up a tyre, acid and a container and drove to a filling station to buy petrol which he used to douse Mokoena’s body,” said a police source.

Meanwhile, the Mokoenas have been receiving counselling from social workers.

“We mothers feel the pain, the social workers came and I got a report that the family is still shocked and family is shattered in terms of what happened and how it happened…Today’s Mother’s Day our children are celebrating their mothers, Karabo is no more to celebrate her mother,” said Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza.

“It’s the day of mothers and women, we must thank everyone as the country is crying with us, we are at a loss for words,” said Karabo’s uncle, Tshepo Mokoena.

A memorial service for Karabo will be held on Wednesday and she will be laid to rest on Friday.
