Dear MIMsters: Are These Red Flags of an Abusive Relationship

I have been dating this guy recently and I found out the following disturbing things about him. Are these signs that can be ignored or are they red flags? Should I end the relationship?

1. I find out that he still communicating with his ex-girlfriend. He celebrates we regularly on his profile and status update. When she had her birthday, he uploaded her picture on to his profile and it remained there for up of four days. I questioned him about it and it brought up a huge argument between us.

2. he speaks harshly to me when he is angry.

3. he tells my little sister about any problems existing between us

4. He was complaining of earache one day, so I told him to let us chat. While chatting, he left me online without a word, so I called him 3 times to see what was wrong. When he picked, he sounded, telling me that I disturbed his sleep, so I hung up.

5. I uploaded his picture on my Facebook profile and the reply I got from him was sad. He told me to remove his picture because my father who is an Apostle could see it. The way he sounded was awful. I told him my dad is not a fetish priest and he should not worry about my dad.

His following words were nothing short of abusive and harsh. I feel like ending the relationship, what should I do?

  • You are in an abusive relationship. And you are almost definitely a side chic! The ex-girlfriend is not his ex, that is probably his wife, that’s why he posts her pictures and doesn’t want you posting his! That’s why he suddenly goes quiet when you are chatting. Even if you’re not a side chic, if he is doing all this while you are dating, he will do worse if you get married. Run!

  • My Dear, I dont know how old or mature you are, but i can assure you that the guy is not taking the relationship you both have,as a serious one. Its not meant to lead to marriage, you may just be a side chiq he’s using 2 pasttime. so if you know you are looking for a serious relationship leading to marriage, you have to quit this fast.
You say your Dad is an Apostle, pls engage deeper in spiritual exercises, stay holy & pure, seek Gods kingdom FIRST, make the Holy Spirit your ‘boyfriend’. Be very smart, dont fall for just any guy.Truth is, there are treasures in ‘earthen’ vessels; the people you disregard as ‘ju’ or not classy, they SOMETIMES make better husbands. Be wise as a lion & gentle as a dove. Men prefer gentle, humble women, for wives. When a girl us lousy & loud he may like you as a girlfriend but not necessarily as a wife. Concentrate more on spiritual & personal development (but stay humble & meek),and all the things that people are dying for (including a good man) ‘will be added unto you’ (Matthew 6:33). God bless you Dear.
