Dear MIMsters: My Daughter’s Attachment To Me Is Now A Big Problem

I have a 19 months old daughter who has always been so attached to me. She never leaves me to go with anyone else.

I enrolled her at a daycare and she resumed on Monday, 18th.

I thought I was prepared for the crying bouts because I’d expected this to be difficult for her but it’s been way worse than expected. She starts to cry from when I drop her off till when I return to pick her up at 1 p.m.

She doesn’t even eat at all even when she gets home. She has refused to eat. I often give her paracetamol everyday and she’s lost so much weight. I’m so confused and this is weighing me down.

Today, I cried with her when I dropped her off at the daycare. I wanted to take her back home but the school wouldn’t let me.

Please Mimsters, is there anything I can do to at least make her eat? Who has been in my shoes before? Thanks a lot.

  • I am fortunate to be working in the children Dept for years now,at first children are always like that since theyre not used to the faces nor the environment but with time i believe your child will definitely adjust but not instantly.

  • @ Jelly O. Are you sure you’ re a mother??? Dis ur comment is not right at all. To de poster, I strongly believe she’ll get use to it.She had become too attached to you and just finding it difficult staying away from you.Meanwhile try and get a gud supplement to give to her. All de best dear

  • Dear Mum, I feel your pain. I am currently heading a primary School and have seen such cases. There’s this girl who just stopped crying on Monday. Since school resumed in September she cries from morning to afternoon. Her mum was also sick with worry but I alleyed her fears. She’s 25months old and we allow her to tour the classes at will. Each time she wants a staff to carry her we do and it took her almost a month to adjust.

If your baby is in safe hands she’ll adjust. All the best
