Mom-of-2, Kiara Shanee has taken to her social media page to share her labour room experience while birthing her second daughter, Kensley Ayanna. According to her, she was in labour for two days and went all natural up to 8cm. No crying, no screaming but she slept in between contractions!

She shared photos from the experience, thanking her mom and hubby for standing by her side throughout the journey, adding that it was definitely an experience she wouldn’t mind having again.

”Let me start by saying I was sooooooo ugly ????????????????????. But the story behind the photos ????????. Soooo my contractions started on Monday 10pm these photos were taken Wednesday 3am . I was sooo tired and literally drained.

I would fall asleep after each contraction mind you I went NATURAL so how I managed to fall asleep in between contractions only god knows lol . I honestly feel like I was passing out but the pain would wake me up.

These two stuck by my side the whole time and Kyle stayed awake with me those 2 days lol. He was so drained that at a point he went to sleep in the chair next to me him and my mom decided that me at 8cm it was nap time for them ????????????????.

I was doing so well no crying, screaming anything I stayed calm and maybe they forgot I was going natural and needed someone but I got them both right on up even though when I was pushing, they both let go of my legs ????.

Next time I think Ima have different people in the room with me ???????? j/k It was definitely an experience that I wouldn’t mind having again. I would love to do a water birth next time. ❤❤❤❤❤ Kensley Ayanna 5:34am 6pounds 11ounces @kylebuggy7st @kenz_mimi.”

Baby Kensley Ayanna was born without difficulties but a day after the birth, mom, Kiara noticed something odd about her daughter’s eyes (Here). She later learned that Kensley had been born with a rare condition known as Anophthalmia.

Narrating how it all started, Kiara wrote:

“When we found out I was having a baby girl, I was so excited and started planning her whole life out in my head. Dance schools, gymnastics, modelling etc. All cute things that little girls do. And to top it off, my best friend proposed to me, taking the next step to making our family one!

Life was looking up and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I ate all kinds of healthy foods, drank the best water, Google was life and avocado became my best friend lol.  The day came on 3.15.2017 at 5:34am after having labour pains for almost two days.

It was a natural and easy birth and God blessed me with a beautiful baby girl – Kensley Ayanna. But I noticed something.. it was a big lump under her left eye and her eyes were swollen. I asked the nurses and doctors I saw that day and everyone told me it would go down, not to worry about it.

But I pressed on because I wanted her to open her eyes.. to see me and her dad. The next day we were hit with heart breaking news. “We didn’t find any”, is what they said to us. My heart fell to my stomach. My fiancé broken like never before. In an instant it pulled us closer together.

With my mom by my side, they helped me to be STRONG. I had no other choice. It felt like a dream. My baby girl has a rare genetic disorder called Anophthalmia (born without eyes). Like what? Why me? Why her? But I soon realised what was best for her was me and what was best for me was her!

Today I no longer have those questions. God makes no mistakes. During ultrasounds she would cover her face or turn her head because she was meant to be here. I will treat my daughter as normal because she is normal.

A healthy baby girl who has the advantage of not seeing the ugliness in the world the way I do. To meet and love someone for who they are, not what they see. To surpass all limitations and expectations.

Kensley will have to work a little harder but yes, I will see to it as her mother that NOTHING stands in her way. For now my eyes are hers and I will show my daughter nothing but how to be the strongest and smartest black woman there is with all the confidence in the world!”

Through a go fund me account, Kiara Shanee Scott has been able to raise over $14K while the initial goal was set at ten thousand dollars, to pay for Kensley’s treatment.

Since then, Kensley has been receiving treatments and growing well but still can’t see.

Anophthalmia is a birth defect where a baby is born without one or both eyes. Anophthalmia has been reported to be present in 3 out of every 100,000 births.

The disorder occurs during pregnancy due to certain genetic factors and can be linked with various other birth defects. It can even lead to fetal death and stillbirth. Sometimes, an affected infant dies shortly after birth.

In many cases, it is not possible to determine the exact causes of this defect. Scientists have found that abnormal chromosomes and genetic mutations may be responsible for it in some children.

Researches also suggest that various environmental factors, including exposure to chemicals, x-rays, pesticides, drugs, toxins, viruses and radiation can increase the risk of developing the disorder.

Vitamin A deficiency in the mother during pregnancy is also counted among the risk factors of Anophthalmos.
