A woman who went viral two years ago for marrying the man who caught the garter after she caught the bouquet at their friends’ wedding, has shared an update on their marriage.
In May 2020, the bride with handle @MalibuDarby took to Twitter to announce that she has gotten married to a man she met at a wedding in 2015.
According to her, they hit it off after she caught the bouquet and her partner who was a stranger at the time, caught the garter.
Malibu shared a picture from the 2015 wedding and a picture from their wedding in 2020 and wrote,
“5 years ago today some stranger caught the garter and I caught the bouquet. Now he’s my husbanddddd. 5/23/2015.”
The post quickly went viral on the micro-blogging site and garnered over five hundred thousand reactions from netizens.
Well, in a rather sad development, the couple have now gotten divorced after only two years of being married.
Malibu took to Twitter to share the update and disclosed that it was her husband’s fault. However, she didn’t share further details on what led to their divorce.
“Since this went viral. Plot twist – we got a divorce. Oh and I wanna circle back since y’all were eating me up in the Steve Harvey comments. It was his fault. K byeeeee!”

@Frankie: “They obviously didn’t know marriage ain’t about catching Garter and Bouquet.”
@Lala: “I wonder if the couple whose wedding you both caught yourselves are still an item.”
@Marco Polo: “Just cause some random asshole caught the garter and she caught the bouquet, she thought she had found a husband. Being a husband or wife is more than catching a garter or bouquet. IDIOT.”
@Anonymous: “Marriages these days are crashing because of 2 major things: Number 1, marrying for the wrong reasons like money, beauty, worrying about what people will say because you’re aging, settling for someone you have no attraction for.
Number 2, being too proud to sit both your asses down and settle arguments amicably before they become too unsettleable.”
@Bukki: “Marriages don’t last anymore because some of us marry for wrong reasons. The fact she caught the bouquet while you (man) caught Carter isn’t the right reasons to assume you can live together as husband and wife. Some of those are fairytales we see in the movies. Wish you both good journey as you go your separate ways. I hope you heal and find peace wherever you are.”
