Germany-based Nigerian Mum Cries Out Over Custody Battle, Accuses German Authorities Of Holding Her Two Sons

A Nigerian woman living in Germany, Adenike Obaoye, has taken to social media to accuse German authorities of unlawfully seizing and taking custody of her two young sons.

She made the allegation in a video posted via her TikTok account on Monday, saying a German court refused to release her two toddlers to her, despite her claim that they are not German citizens and should be allowed to return with her to Nigeria.

The mother of two expressed frustration after a Berlin-Kreuzberg family court, presided over by a female judge, reportedly denied her request to travel back to Nigeria with her children, Noah and David, born in August 2021 and July 2022 respectively.

Obaoye wrote in a caption accompanying the video:

“Done with the Family Court at Berlin-Kreuzberg and the German female judge refused to release my non-German children to travel to Nigeria as I demanded.”

The woman, who identified herself as a single mother with full custody, insisted that both children are Nigerian citizens and have no legal ties to Germany in terms of citizenship. She continued:

“Germany refused to release non-German children, claiming they want the children to remain in Germany, which is a violation of the children’s rights and my rights as their mother.”

She further accused the German state of attempting to carry out what she termed a “state kidnapping,” suggesting that officials were seeking to wrongfully take over guardianship of her sons.

“Germans want to inherit children that are not theirs,” she said.
