Kourtney Kardashian Speaks Candidly About Her Childhood Struggles With Former Step-dad, Caitlyn Jenner
Reality star, Kourtney Kardashian didn’t hold back as she reflected on her life struggles growing up.
During a candid chat on her sister Khloe Kardashian‘s podcast, ‘Khloe In Wonder Land’, the mother of three talked about her former step-parent, Caitlyn Jenner.
As the firstborn of momager, Kris Jenner and the late Robert Kardashian, Kourtney got real about her relationship with Caitlyn, who was married to Kris from 1991 until their split in 2015.
The 46-year-old didn’t hold back as she described Caitlyn’s parenting style as “controlling” and “bossy.”
The topic of parenting came up when Khloe commended Kourtney for her laid-back approach to co-parenting with her beau Travis Barker.
“[Caitlyn] never tried to be dad,” Khloe remarked, alluding to their late father Robert. “And I always appreciated and respected that.”
But Kourtney had a different perspective.
“Okay, so, that wasn’t my experience,” she countered. “But maybe that’s why it became your experience. So [I’m] grateful for that for you.”
She then shared some intense memories from her younger years. Kourtney recalled frequent “yelling wars” with her stepfather, Caitlyn (formerly Bruce Jenner) while growing up.

“I would be like, ‘I wanna call my Dad,’ and [Caitlyn] would hang up the phone. We would have yelling wars.”
Kourtney also mentioned how Jenner had tight control over her friendships: “Certain friends can’t come over.”
Kourtney revealed that the constant clashes ultimately led her to move in with her father, Robert before his passing from esophageal cancer in 2003.
Khloe confessed that she once thought the tension stemmed from Kourtney feeling that Caitlyn was “replacing dad,” but added: “Not that he did, no one could replace dad.”
While Khloe praised Caitlyn for not trying to replace their dad, Kourtney disagreed, saying her experience felt more like a power struggle.
Caitlyn and Kris were married from 1991 to 2015 and share two children: Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
In a 2015 interview with Diane Sawyer on 20/20, Caitlyn discussed the state of her relationships with her children after her transition. She said:
“Some [of my children] I have remained very close to. A couple of them… I’m a little more distant.”
Caitlyn admitted that she often wonders if her children’s busy lives or her transition are the reasons for the distance.
“I have to admit, I’ll sit here and wonder, ‘Is it because of my transitioning? Or is it because their life is so busy that they don’t call, like, all the time? Nobody calls that much. I mostly reach out to them. Obviously, the Jenner side calls more, but they all have their own lives.”
