Ghanaian Man Laments The Difficulty In Securing His Nigerian Citizenship After Being Married To A Nigerian Woman For 10 Years
A Ghanaian man has taken to social media to share about how hard it is for him to secure his Nigerian citizenship or permanent residence even after being married to a Nigerian woman and living here for the past .ten years.
The man, Kwame Senou shared this while responding to a post of another Nigerian man who recounted how difficult it has been for one of his friends from another African country, who is married to a Nigerian woman and has lived with his family for over 15 years, to secure his Nigerian permanent residency or citizenship.
According to Oluyomi Ojo, his friend has had to renew his passports over the years because the authorities would not grant him citizenship despite being married to a Nigerian.
Kwame, on the other hand, mentioned that he keeps getting harassed by Nigerian police officers and even immigration officials.
In his words:
“I am in the same situation. Even after 10 years, police still threaten me. Immigration, even with all the documents at land border, still ask for money.”
