Actress Opeyemi Aiyeola Unapologetically Speaks On The Bold Decision She Took To Protect Her Marriage And Raise Her Family

Veteran Nollywood star, Opeyemi Aiyeola has opened up about her long absence from the movie scene, revealing a bold decision she took to protect her marriage and raise her family.

In a heartfelt interview on Oyinmomo TV, the super mum of two, who relocated to the United States after marrying Olayiwola Abdulwakilu, said she intentionally blocked her Nollywood colleagues from assessing her to prevent any distractions that could lead to divorce.

While explaining that her disappearance from the movie scene was to have enough time with her family, Opeyemi noted that she blocked everyone in the industry to protect her marriage. She said:

“I was off the scene for more than ten years, and I apologised to my fans. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry.”

The actress, known for her energetic and emotional roles in Yoruba films, explained that societal stereotypes about entertainers having unstable marriages played a major role in her decision to go silent.

“Let’s appreciate our lovers because they caused it. Some of them will say entertainers don’t have stable homes or lives, but they don’t know what happens behind those relationships. So, because I didn’t want my own to be like that, I blocked everyone from the industry for 10 years.”

It’s a reminder that behind the glitz of celebrity life are real people facing real-life choices.
