AY Makun Cautions People As He Speaks On Dangers Of Social Media Pressure
Stand-up comedian and actor, Ayo Makun has shared an honest message about the increasing pressure people experience due to social media comparisons.
Speaking in a video posted online, AY, as he’s professionally known, highlighted how platforms like Instagram often create unrealistic standards of success where people appear to have their lives perfectly figured out — flaunting luxury trips, designer fashion, and flashy cars.
The actor revealed that some influencers and content creators go as far as borrowing clothes, posing in hotel lobbies, or using other people’s cars just to appear successful.
The dad of two cautioned Nigerians against falling into the trap of social media comparisons, warning that much of what people see online is staged and unrealistic.
In his words:
“Many of these celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles.”
He added that some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them.
Describing social media as “a movie set,” the movie producer reminded his followers that not everything they see online is real.
He encouraged people to grow at their own pace, stay authentic, and resist the urge to compete with illusions.
“Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them.
Social media is like a movie set; not everything you see online is real. It’s better to live real and simple than to live a life full of fake and boring,”
he said, urging his audience to choose self-contentment over comparison.
He ended the video with a call for reflection, asking viewers who agreed with his message to comment “real.”
