American Rapper, Jelly Roll Gets Candid About Cheating On His Wife And The Turning Point For Them: ‘One Of The Worst Moments Of My adult Life’
American rapper, singer, and songwriter, Jason Bradley DeFord, known professionally as Jelly Roll, has opened up about one of the darkest moments in his life.
The “Need a Favor” singer, 40, and his wife, Bunnie XO, 45, tied the knot in 2016, and recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary.
But the couple went through a rough patch several years ago, one that Jelly said was ‘one of the Worst Moments’ of his adult life.
Jelly became emotional while speaking on the Human School podcast, and confessing to cheating on his wife, an action he claimed nearly destroyed his marriage.
According to him, he had cheated on her at a time when he was struggling with substance abuse and surrounded by men who made infidelity seem normal.
“One of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife. Because it was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all.
I know I’m madly in love with this woman, but I let people and situations get in my head.’ It just really, really, really blew me back,”
he said, adding that he deeply regretted ever hurting her. He continued:
“I was hanging around a bunch of people that were cheating on their wives. When I was doing cocaine, I was hanging around a bunch of people that were doing cocaine.
“I used to be proud of long-standing friendships just because they had a number attached to them. Horrible humans. But I would just be proud to say, ‘That dude’s been with me 12 years.’ S—-y human!”
The couple briefly split in 2018 but later reconciled. In 2023, they renewed their vows in Las Vegas — the same city where they first got married. He said:
“I wish our story would’ve went in the way that it never had an affair, and I’m in way glad it happened, but man, I’m proud of who we are today. I truly am.”
Bunnie XO had previously hinted at their breakup in a 2023 TikTok post, writing,
“Who knew that us breaking up in 2018, me moving back to Vegas & you coming to get me back — would have put us on this wild journey called life… Our castle in the sand had to crumble so we could rebuild on solid ground.”
Reflecting on the experience, Jelly said almost losing his wife was his wake-up call to turn his life around. Since then, the couple has grown even closer.
Their love story began back in 2015 when they met at a Las Vegas bar. At the time, Jelly Roll was still living in a van and hadn’t yet found fame, but Bunnie said she felt an instant connection when she saw him perform.
Despite challenges — including Jelly Roll’s time in prison and their temporary separation — the pair have continued to support each other publicly and privately.
Jelly opened up about his wife to PEOPLE in November 2024, describing her as someone who shows up “when the chips are down.” He said:
“I prioritize family and that’s what anchors me down. My world shrunk when I focused on one woman.”
He proposed on stage in 2016, and they exchanged vows that same night. In 2023, Jelly and Bunnie renewed their vows at the same Las Vegas chapel where they said “I do.”
Bunnie celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary on Instagram on Sept. 2 with a series of photos of the couple in Germany.
“Life is ours, we live it our way 💫 9 years of us ✨,” she captioned the post.
Last month, Bunnie XO faced criticism online after sharing a video from her trip to Italy where she was seen holding a glass of wine. Some accused her of abandoning her sobriety journey, but she later clarified that her struggles were with hard drugs, not alcohol, and that she occasionally drinks in moderation.
Through it all, the couple’s transparency about their struggles — from addiction to infidelity — has earned them even more admiration from fans who see them as proof that love can survive even the hardest storms.
