DNA Scandal: Late Mohbad’s Wife, Wunmi, Writes Open Letter To Her Father-in-law As His Legal Counsel Withdraws From The Case

Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has written an open letter to her father-in-law following another withdrawal from his legal counsel on their case.

On her Instagram story, the mother of one made it clear that he can obtain as many lawyers as he wants from anywhere in the world; however, he can’t manipulate DNA.

Expressing her anger for him, she stated that when a person is confident in truth, they don’t run, hide, switch lawyers every month or ignore court calls.

She noted that she and her lawyers have cooperated from day one, never opposed a DNA test, showed up, waited, and followed the law.

She said that the only person delaying the process is the same people who requested it -her father in-law. Wunmi made it known that the court can’t be manipulated and no one can manipulate science.

She wrote in part:

“Another lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has withdrawn from the DNA case. To my father-in-law, you can get as many lawyers as you want from anywhere in the world; one thing is certain, however, that you can’t manipulate this DNA. I’m sorry.

A whole SAN. When people are confident in truth, they don’t run. They don’t hide. They don’t switch lawyers every month. They don’t ignore court calls.

We have cooperated from Day 1. We have never opposed a DNA test. We showed up. We waited. We followed the law.

The only people delaying the process are the same people who requested it.

No one can manipulate the court, and no one can manipulate science.

Let the truth speak – for Liam, for Mohbad, and for justice.

November 11 is around the corner. We will be there. Again.”

Recall that following the singer’s death, in 2023, many have been clamoring for a DNA test to be done on Liam, his son to ascertain his paternity. Even Mohbad’s father had called for DNA to be done on his son.

Last year, a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu granted the order that Omowunmi needed to be served a notice of the pending DNA test application.

The legal team told the court that the Sheriff of the court had attempted twice to serve Wunmi the court process but failed and the Chief Magistrate then ordered that Wunmi should be served by posting the court process on her last known address.

In January, Wunmi through her lawyers, said that the singer’s father had been avoiding carrying out the DNA test to prove her son’s paternity.

Her lawyers slammed Mohbad’s father for slandering Wunmi’s name in public by claiming she wasn’t ready for the DNA. Demanding an apology, her lawyers noted how the clergyman has been defaming his grandson, Liam by portraying him as a bastard.

Last month, a Magistrate court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, ordered a deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to be carried out on Liam, the son of Mohbad.

The singer’s father, through his counsel, argued that clarity on paternity is essential given its implications for the child’s welfare and the mother’s maintenance obligations.

Mohbad’s widow, represented by her lawyer, didn’t oppose the application, leading the court to grant the order as requested.

However, the proceedings were subsequently adjourned to November 11, 2025.
