Miracle Baby Falls From 11th Floor And Survives
A 15-month-old boy in Minneapolis who fell from the balcony of an apartment on the 11th floor miraculously survives.
According to Huffington Post;
Musa Dayib is in critical-but-stable condition with numerous injuries, including a concussion, broken back, broken arms and bruises to his heart and lungs, and is breathing with the help of a machine. But considering the fall, the child is lucky to be alive.
“If you and I fell that far, we would be dead,” Dr. Tina Slusher of the pediatric intensive care unit at Hennepin County Medical Center told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “He’s a kid. So they tend to be more flexible and pliable than you and I would be. Having said that, it’s a real gift from God that he made it because this is a huge fall,” she was quoted as saying.
Dr. Slusher said the baby landed on a mulchy area, which helped to break his fall. The boy and his 3-year-old sister were playing at home under the care of their father, according to multiple reports. When he left the room, the little girl apparently opened the door to the balcony.
“Less than a minute, the dad went to the room and the daughter run after him, about less than a minute, tell him the baby fell down,” family friend Abdirizak Bihi told WCCO. The boy appeared to have slipped between the rails on the balcony, which were up to code at 47 inches high and 5.5 inches apart.
“How a child fit through 5 1/2 inches, we don’t know yet,” complex owner George Sherman told KSTP. The family said they want changes to make sure this never happened again.
“What happened is what happened,” Abdir Ahim Amed, the boy’s uncle, told WCCO. “How can we protect the rest of these kids that stays in here needs to be… something’s got to be done.” The child is heavily sedated and expected to spend weeks or more in the hospital. Doctors said it was too early to tell whether he had suffered any permanent damage.
