Meet The Married Couple Who Have Never Lived Together And Are Expecting A Baby
They have been married for two years but Laura and Chris have never lived together and this does not seem like changing anytime soon despite them expecting a baby.
The Mirror reports:
The secret to a good marriage is living on opposite sides of the world say one couple who are now having a baby despite living 11,000 mile apart. Laura and Chris Husson 35 and 38, live half a world away from one another and have no immediate plans to move closer together despite the upcoming addition to their family.
Laura, who heads up her own web development firm on the Isle of Wight has a six-year-old daughter called Ellen from a previous relations so is unable to move to be with New Zealand resident Chris who also has joint custody of his two children who are both in school, but despite the distance they started planning a family last September and Laura is now 28-weeks pregnant.
The unconventional relationship meant the mum-to-be had to take her pregnancy test alone and share the moment with her husband remotely. She said: “The long-term plan has always been that once Chris’s boys have finished school in five or six years, he’ll join me here but that feels more urgent now we’re having a child. What keeps us going is that we plan never to be apart for more than 12 weeks at a time. It’s the countdowns that we hang onto.”
The pair met at a friend’s baptism and despite strong feelings decided never to contact each other once they returned but Chris’ resolve broke three weeks later.
“The feelings were intense,” Laura told the Mail, but pursuing a relationship seemed crazy since Chris has joint custody of his two sons, aged 11 and 13, in New Zealand and I could never move Ellen away from her dad and family here.”
However, after six months of e-mailing and talking for hours at a time the couple realised they had fallen in love despite not having had sex. It was more than a year before they were reunited but they have now met several times and shelled out £20,000 on the 23 hour flight between their homes. The plan is now for Chris to move to the UK in five or six years when his children have finished school.
Universities of London and Bradford studies says one in ten adults in Britain are now in a relationship where they don’t live with their partner. This is largely due to children from previous relationship, a global economy and frequent travel, it added.
