How Preacher Allegedly Beats, Robs & Rapes Women Sourced Online in Washington D.C Hotels
A 33-year-old Nigerian American, Gabriel Omogbo of Hyattsville, Maryland, has been charged with attempted first degree murder, armed robbery, first degree assault and reckless endangerment for beating, robbing and raping female escorts whom he sourced for online.
Police believe that Omogbo used the website Backpage.com to find female sex workers and arranged to meet up with them, Daily Mail reports.
The first two attacks reportedly happened at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Rockville and on both occasions he is accused of raping and stealing from two women he had met online. A third attack was said to have occurred at the Radison Hotel in Rockville where Omogbo allegedly threatened the escort with a knife. He reportedly commanded the woman to take off her clothes before telling her that, ‘You are going to die today.’
Afterwards, he reportedly beat her and cut her in the arms and legs before taking her iPad, cell phone and $300. The woman survived and told police what happened to her adding that her assailant had offered her a glass of water before running off.
Omogbo who preaches at the Celestial Church of Christ in Riverdale was arrested after police traced CCTV footage from the hotels and collected DNA evidence from each of the rooms. The footage showed a man matching Omogbo’s description wearing blue jeans and brown loafers entering and leaving the hotels at the time of the attacks.
Omogbo who graduated from Bowie State University lived with his parents and also worked as a security guard.
He is currently being held at Montgomery County Correction Facility on a no bond status and scheduled to make another appearance in Court on 8 January. He could face life imprisonment if found guilty.
