Parents Put Wailing 16-Day-Old Baby in Garbage Bag, Throw in Trash Can

A 23-year-old man, Yoshimi Suzuki and his 17-year-old wife have been arrested and charged with the fatal abuse of their 16-day-old daughter. The infant died after she was placed in a trash can, Japan Today reports.

According to Yonezawa police, Suzuki who is unemployed, and his wife who cannot be named because she is a minor, is suspected of putting their daughter, Misora, in a garbage bag and then placing the bag inside a trash can in their bedroom.

Police say the incident unfolded on Thursday around 10:00 p.m. at the couple’s home. The couple was playing video games and their wailing baby was reportdly disturbing them so they put her into the trash can; baby Misora allegedly suffocated to death while her parents played their video games.

Suzuki said he noticed that his daughter wasn’t moving when he went to get her from the trash can later in the night and called 119. She was then taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead and the hospital notified the police.

Police say the couple, who have been arrested, have admitted that they are guilt of the fatal abuse charge leveled against them and said they had put the newborn girl in the bin because she was crying really loudly. The bin was 20 cm high and 20 cm in diameter. Suzuki and his wife were quoted by police as saying they didn’t think their daughter would die.
