Sokoto State Government Promotes Girl Child Education By Paying Parents
Sokoto state government in conjunction with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has reportedly introduced a programme where mothers or guardians get N5,000 monthly allowance for sending a girl child to school. This is to assist them in buying books and stationery as well as alleviate poverty in the state.
According to PREMIUMTIMES, UNICEF and the state government are also training 830 female teachers to provide intelligent and good role models for female students, especially in the rural areas of the state.
A statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the governor, Imam Imam on Tuesday, revealed that the programme which is tagged ‘Train the Trainee’ has been executed under UNICEF`s Girls Education Project (GEP3) with the main aim to train female teachers from rural areas who would in turn go back to their communities to train the female children there.
The project also aims to get girls who have dropped out of school back in school without further delay.

Nice one. Am sure will help encourage it.
A good move if they won’t still give their girls out in marriage to collect a ‘bigger and better offer’
Sai baba lol
Good!.. but for how long? These women should be empowered instead with something lasting, something of a lifetime value such as acquiring a skill. Another person may take over governance tomorrow and trash out this monetary initiative, but a skill once acquired stays on.
Good initiative but their problem is not poverty it’s the love for small small girls
