Boy Who Was Shaken As A Baby Finally Dies After 12-Years On Life Support

Aiden Stein, a 12-year-old boy who was shaken as a baby and placed in a vegetative state for the rest of his life has been confirmed dead by authorities on Wednesday.

According to the WASHINGTONPOST, Aiden was four months old when he was rushed to Mansfield hospital in March 2004, after his dad, a 21-year-old Matthew Stein by name reported that the baby had lost consciousness.

Following his report, a doctor diagnosed Aiden with a traumatic brain injury, which was in line with child abuse and three doctors later testified that Aiden`s injuries were indicative of being shaken. Stein, Aiden`s father was convicted of felonious assault and child endangerment and was sentenced to 8-years in jail despite his claims that he was innocent.

Prosecutor Bambi Couch Page told ASSOCIATED PRESS on Wednesday that it was ”unlikely” she’d pursue further charges against Stein.

”I would have to look at the reason Aiden died, but there would probably be a stretch in jurors’ minds that he died as a result of what the dad did,” Couch Page said.

Arica Heimlich, Aiden`s mom supported her fiance in fighting that their child be removed from life support. She told the authorities she didn`t believe Stein injured their son. A doctor at a children`s hospital in Akron diagnosed Aiden with a traumatic brain injury which could be linked to child abuse.

An ethics committee at the children`s hospital also recommended that Aiden be removed from life support. Three doctors had already testified that Aiden would never recover.

Aiden later died on Sunday at a Columbus hospital.
