A massive tumour weighing more than the average one-year-old baby has been removed from an Indian woman’s stomach after she complained about severe pains in her tummy.

According to Mirror, the 7kg tumour had been growing inside a 45-year-old woman’s stomach for up to five months.

The woman underwent a four-hour operation in which doctors removed the massive tumour weighing more than a one-year-old child.

Information gathered revealed that the woman, from India’s Kerela state, had been complaining of discomfort and severe abdominal pain in the months leading up to the life-saving surgery. Her pain turned out to be a tumour growing in her stomach.

A doctor, G. Unnikrishnan, who led the team of surgeons which carried out the procedure, said: “The cyst must have been there for at least 5-6 months.

Assisted by junior residents, Aravind s Ganapath, Suman and Mussamil, the surgery went on for more than 4 hours.

“It was massive and spread at the right side of her stomach due to which her liver and gallbladder were also not functioning properly.”

He added that if the woman had delayed the surgery for a few more days, her life would have been in imminent danger.

And in an incredible show of generosity, the operation in the Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerela state was conducted absolutely free of charge.

Unnikrishnan added: “The woman who is working as an Anganwadi worker (Government child daycare worker) at Pathanapuram had undergone treatment in several hospitals and was not properly diagnosed.

The growth which was diagnosed as retroperitoneal lymphangioma was removed through a complex surgery.

The doctors of the hospital have claimed that only 186 such cases have been reported in the world.
